This year we decided to plan for a family beach vacation in Sunset Beach, NC. My husband grew up visiting Sunset Beach with his family, and now we’ve made it a family tradition of our own.
Sunset Beach is a seaside town in Brunswick County, North Carolina. It’s about a three-and-a-half-hour drive from where we live, which makes for a pretty painless road trip. Luckily, Leo does pretty well in the car and we didn’t bring our dog, Ace, along with us this time.
We rented a house within walking distance to the beach access on 29th Street. The house was available for rent through Sunset Vacations and we had a seamless experience booking our stay through them. We’ve already reserved the same house for next year. Sunset Vacations gives you first dibs on reserving the same house for the following year as long as you pay the small deposit to hold your spot by the day before you check-out.
During our summer vacation in Sunset Beach, NC, we rented bikes from Julie’s Rentals. This was our main mode of transportation we used to get around Sunset Beach. It was fun to hop on the bikes and go for a bike ride at a moment's notice to get out and smell the salt air.
In the evenings after we put Leo to bed, we would watch the sunset. You can see why the beach is called Sunset Beach after witnessing the peaceful glow from the setting sun each day.
The weather was perfect during our time in Sunset Beach, NC. Of course, there was some rain and stormy weather here and there, but it’s inevitable when you’re on the coast and the summer humidity is lingering in.
Calabash is a short drive from Sunset Beach and it’s known for its seafood and small-town charm. We enjoyed some local seafood at Beck’s Restaurant for an early dinner one night. Another day, we played a little round of putt-putt at Tropical Adventure Mini Golf. It’s the cutest putt-putt course that was just the right size for Leo. It didn’t take us more than 30 minutes to play and they let you come back as many times as you want within the same day without charging you extra!
This family vacation was long overdue! With all the happenings over the past year, we’ve been anxiously waiting to get out of the house and explore the beautiful sites in our beautiful state of North Carolina!
