Today’s my birthday! It’s certainly not a national holiday or anything, but I thought I’d take this time to tell you a little more about myself and how I ended up where I am.
I’m 31, married to my BFF, Cameron, a mother to an almost 2-year-old, Leo, and a dog mom to a silver lab, Ace. We live in Greensboro, NC. I was born in Tampa, Florida, but I’ve spent most of my life in North Carolina. I’m my mom’s only child, but I have 3 half-siblings on my dad’s side of the family.
How did I meet my husband?
Cameron and I went to Northwest High School together and graduated in 2008. Our junior year, we had first period math class together (AFM “Advanced Functions and Modeling”) – which was a complete joke – and he ended up sitting behind me. He would copy my history homework and I would copy his math homework. Back in the days of AIM, he sent me a message by mistake thinking I was someone else in another class of his. He had a question about an assignment in another class and I told him I had no clue what he was talking about because I didn’t have the same teacher. Eventually, we ended up chatting online more and more as the days went on. By the beginning of our senior year we were still talking. One thing led to another and we ended up going to every school dance together that year. By March of our senior year we were “officially” a couple.
I went off to college at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and he stayed in Greensboro. We would visit each other every single weekend. I was homesick and ended up transferring to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made.
After dating for 5 years, Cameron proposed! We got married that following year and we’ve been married for almost 8 years! We welcomed our son, Leo, into our lives in 2019.
How did I end up getting into photography?
Ever since I can remember, I’ve always had a camera. Either a disposable Kodak or a digital point and shoot. One of the biggest presents I asked for growing up was a digital camera. I had a few different ones and I vividly remember going to Ritz Camera when they were still in business and picking out the one I wanted for my birthday that year. It was a brown Nikon – super ugly.
Fast forward to a few years ago when my husband gifted me a “nice camera” for Christmas. We just had our first child and he knew I’d always wanted a “nice camera”. Having a little one running around was even more of a reason to have one.
Being behind the camera has lit a fire within me that I haven’t been able to ignore. It’s one thing I’ve stuck with and haven’t wanted to give up on. The joy that has sparked within me since becoming engrossed in photography has been overwhelmingly rewarding.
Aside from photography, I work full-time as a Retail Brand Manager for an e-commerce site that is part of a North Carolina regional magazine. I love connecting with local businesses with the work I do there, and my experience in this role has been extremely beneficial to my personal and professional growth.
What do I do for fun?
My love language is something along the lines of thrifting, estate sale shopping, scouring Goodwill, plant collecting...you get the gist. I also LOVE going to the beach with my family and enjoying the slow moments in life.
Who do I look up to?
There are several positive influences in my life, it’s hard to pick just one. I look up to my husband, he tries to keep me grounded, calm, and relaxed, and usually gives the best advice while not sugar coating anything. I look up to my mom for raising me to become the woman I am today. If it weren’t for her I wouldn’t be where I am. I look up to my dad for his loyal, hardworking, passionate work ethic, and conscientious attention to detail. The list goes on, and on, and on.
What’s my favorite movie?
That’s a tough one, I’d say one of my favorites is Steel Magnolias, another would be We’re the Millers...no matter what, I watch them both whenever they are on TV.
What’s something some people don’t know about me?
I can cross my baby toe on my right foot without touching it – for real. Call me a weirdo, but it’s the truth. I’m a pescatarian. My biggest pet peeve is stopping at a gas station for any reason at all. I’d choose N*SYNC over Backstreet all day every day.
